It was a $14K job and I would have only paid $500 The guy who owned the roofing company even offered to eat the $500 deductible if I allowed them to place one of their small advertising signs on my yard for at least 60 days, which was a no brainier for me. sure enough, USAA agreed to replace my roof for only my deductible $500. The roof didn't honestly look that bad to me, but it was 15yrs old, so why not. They came and looked and said they could probably have their guy on site when USAA sent their appraiser. In 2011, while working as an Army recruiter, a major storm came through I just happened to be recruiting the child of someone who owned a roofing business and was discussing how many homes in the area had storm damage. While I did switch my auto policy away from USAA because of rising rates I have kept my homeowner's as I have never had any issues and repairs were done quickly. AllState=Bad, I will never do business with them again and will never recommend them to my worst enemy. TLDR: USAA might be a little bit more, but holy shit, they actually take care of you and treat you like a person. USAA auto insurance has been top notch for me as well compared to Geico and AllState claims in the past. Extremely small price to pay in hindsight. His policy was about 400 dollars more/year than mine. My friend had USAA in the same neighborhood, their first floor flooded too, very similar damages, everything was fixed within a month. We had already PCSd 6 months by the time it got fixed and were hemorrhaging money. ![]() ![]() I used to have AllState and I was on a short tour when our first floor flooded, needless to say, it took almost a YEAR for the house to get fixed and I had to yell and cuss and fight them for every damn penny, all while I'm in the middle east, and eventually another fucking state. I have USAA now, and I haven't had to use them for anything Home Insurance related.
